Women's Health

Women undergo several major hormonal changes during their lives. Issues such as PMS, infertility, adrenal fatigue, thyroid disorders, PCOS, osteoporosis, peri-menopause and menopause can wreak havoc on a woman’s life. Our pharmacists are here to support women as they move through these stages and times of hormonal imbalance.

Peri-Menopause, Menopause, and Hormone Imbalance

We've all heard the symptoms...hot flashes, night sweats and generalized irritability. Between the ages of 45-55, women typically begin experiencing peri-menopause. However, symptoms can occur when a woman is in her mid-thirties. During menopause, a woman's ovaries stop making eggs, and subsequently produce less estrogen and progesterone. These hormonal changes are the cause of menopause symptoms.

While these symptoms can be unpleasant, there are options for potential treatment through customized hormone replacement therapy (HRT). At Reed's Compounding Pharmacy, we specialize in customized treatments that are created for you and your individual needs. After a brief consultation, we may be able to work with you and your medical provider to find the best hormone treatment for you.

In the US - at least 40 million women are currently experiencing menopause, and an additional 20 million women will reach menopause during the next decade. Treatment of menopause includes hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which is a topic that has gained national and international prominence in recent years.

In addition to customized hormone replacement therapy, there are several natural supplements that have been found to ease some of the symptoms of this life transition.

Infertility/Fertility: CREIGHTON MODEL FertilityCare™ System

The CREIGHTON MODEL FertilityCare™ System featuring NaPro Technology teaches women to track naturally occurring phases of fertility and infertility. Interpretation and evaluation of a woman’s biological markers can provide considerable insight into gynecological and reproductive health conditions.

With this technology, for the first time, women are given the opportunity to be actively involved in their own health care. The CREIGHTON MODEL FertilityCare™ System is a natural method of advanced procreative education. It is highly effective in identifying various gynecological conditions and in achieving and avoiding pregnancy.

This new, unique system is an excellent method of monitoring gynecologic and reproductive health. It is a morally and professionally acceptable means of naturally regulating fertility.

This system relies on the observation of natural “biomarkers”—menstrual flow characteristics, cervical fluid, and dry days— which are all essential to a woman’s health and fertility. Through these observations, a woman is able to identify gynecological changes and assess when she is fertile and infertile.

While the CREIGHTON METHOD FertilityCare™ System teaches a woman what to look for, NaPro Technology is the means for interpreting the findings and tracking the results. With this system, women can be actively involved in predicting their natural phases of fertility and infertility while monitoring their gynecological health. Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by low bone density, which simply means that there is less bone compared to when you were young and your bones were at their peak, healthy stage. Because there is less bone density, the bone becomes brittle, weak and more likely to fracture Osteoporosis occurs when not enough new bone is formed or too much bone is removed, or both. Osteoporosis is often called “the silent condition” because many times you don’t know you have the condition until the first fracture occurs. Osteoporosis is a painful, crippling disease that is both preventable and treatable.

    Top Osteoporosis Symptoms Include:

    1. Pain: In back, ribs, and abdomen. The abdomen may swell.
    2. Shrinking: Although some height loss is expected as people age, osteoporosis causes greater bone shrinkage than normal.
    3. Fractures: In hip, spine, and wrists.
    4. Humped Back: Also known as the "Dowager's Hump."

If left unprevented or untreated, osteoporosis can continue progressively until a bone breaks.

Osteoporosis affects approximately 25 million Americans, predominately women (250 million worldwide.)
