Men's Health

As men age, hormone levels decrease and may affect health and lifestyle. Beginning at age 30, men lose up to 3% of their testosterone per year. After age 50, men become more vulnerable to osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, erectile dysfunction, low libido, and depression.

After a consultation, Reed’s Compounding Pharmacy will work together with your medical provider to customize your therapy. Every patient is different, and we tailor the dose and dosage form to your individual needs. If you would like more information on consultations, see below, or call 520-318-4421 today!

Erectile Dysfunction

According to the National Institutes of Health in 2002, an estimated 15 million to 30 million men in the United States experience chronic erectile dysfunction.

Treatment options Include:

  • Injections (Tri-mix or testosterone)
  • Troches (testosterone)
  • Creams (testosterone)
  • Phosphodiesterase Inhibitors (like Viagra™)

Over-the-counter options include:

  • Ginseng
  • Gingko Bilboa
  • L-Arginine/L-citrulline
  • Saw Palmetto
  • Yohimbine
  • Zinc
  • Vacuum Devices

Trimix

Trimix is a penile injection medication for erectile dysfunction that contains three active ingredients: alprostadil, papaverine, and phentolamine. These ingredients work synergistically to produce vasodilation in the penile tissue. Unlike Viagra™  (sildenafil) and Cialis™ (tadalafil), this medication does not depend on adequate nitric oxide to exert its effect. Nitric oxide is generally low or depleted in older patients--especially in diabetic patients and patients who have undergone prostatectomy. The following video by Dr. Jared Moss demonstrates the general technique for using this medication, but if you have questions please do not hesitate to contact our pharmacy or your healthcare provider for more information.
